Dining and Activity Centers
Having good, nutritious meals are importation. However, our meal sites provide more than just meals. At the NU-HOPE Senior Dining and Activity Centers, seniors have the opportunity to enjoy exercise and art classes, play games, get tips as to how to improve nutrition, and – most importantly – have an opportunity to socialize and meet other people.
Perhaps Mary said it best: “Because of NU-HOPE, I have a place to go to be with people like me. I don’t have to be home with no one to talk to. It helps my state of mind. The staff is friendly. They are there when I need them. They are like family. I thank God for them.”
Centers are open Monday-Friday and typically serve both breakfast and lunch. Most sites close shortly after lunch, although specific hours vary by location. Transportation to and from the centers may also be available.
Pre-registration is required. People may sign up for all five days or for only a few days each week.
There is no fee for the meals, activities, or transportation. However, donations are encouraged. These donations help us expand access to these services to others.

FAQs
Who is Eligible?
Any senior who is at least 60 years of age and resides in Highlands or Hardee County is eligible to attend the meal sites.
The following are also eligible:
Any spouse who attends the dining center with his/her spouse who is age 60 or older.
Persons with a disability, regardless of age, who reside in a housing facility occupied primarily by older individuals where congregate nutrition services are provided.
Disabled persons who reside at home with and accompany an eligible person to the dining center.
Volunteers, regardless of age, who provide essential services on a regular basis during meal hours.

What is the Cost?
There is no fee for the meals, activities, or transportation. However, donations are encouraged. These donations help us expand access to these services to others.
Consumers enrolled in services through the Community Care for the Elderly and the Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative (Florida General Revenue funded programs) have a monthly co-payment, as mandated by the Florida Statutes. A fee is determined at the time of the in-home visit and comprehensive assessment and is based on income.
